Le Petit Coin du Mexique – Authentic Mexican Restaurant

My Mexican friends recommended this place and I know I’ve hit a great spot!

The place is not too big and quite homely with their various Mexican themed decorations. It’s in Saint-Michel and probably a bit out of the way for many downtowners like me. But it’s right next to D’iberville metro station. They have a little section stocked with all things Mexican. And I discovered Tama-Roca, a weirdly yummy Mexican treat.

A friend of mine bought a pack of Tama Roca out of curiosity. I tried a bite and was intrigued. It’s made from tamarind fruit and has a sour base taste. Then the outside is coated with a layer of light spice. It reminds me of the marinated plums that many Chinese people have as a snack. Many of us tried it, and all the Mexicans, Chinese, and Indians liked it. A weird culinary insight. I would say this is an acquired taste. 😛

Starting the night with a margarita. It’s absolutely delicious and has just the right amount of crushed ice.

The guacamole is on the light side. I may have been used to other ones that has a bit too much onion. So this one tastes light on the palate.

The enchiladas are spicy! Not the kind that can burn your tongue off. But if you are not a spicy eater, beware. I really like the chocolate sauce out of the three, even though the chocolate taste got washed off by the spiciness.

I highly recommend the tacos!!! I tried two kinds and both are must-haves. There’s a generous amount of meat on each tortilla and the marinated meat is bursting with flavor. The next time I come, I’ll probably just order the tacos. They are THAT good.

Grumman ’78 – Montreal Food Truck

Grumman '78 Truck

Grumman ’78 Truck

I might be biased, but a lot of people would agree that the return of the food trucks is one of the best things that happened to Montreal food scene this year. After last year’s roaring success of the food truck test run, this year the trucks will be back in full force starting from June 20.

Grumman ’78 has been famous for being one of the pioneers in Montreal food truck movement. And the concept of gourmet food truck seems to go a long way.

Some may argue that the gourmet aspect has brought the price of the food trucks up. But I wouldn’t complain about the absolutely delicious food that may be even hard to match in restaurants.

Anyways, let’s look at the yummy tacos Grumman has cooked up! (Taken from last year’s just for laughs festival but they are pretty consistent year after year)

The tacos are small and most people would need 2-3 to fill their stomach. But it’s a good excuse to try all the flavors!
